A tiny, ancient tree, full of character, beautifully preserved in silver.

Ancient Bonsai takes its inspiration from the wonderful art of bonsai — miniature trees carefully nurtured and shaped over many years, each developing its own unique personality.

With its twisting trunk, delicate branches and beautifully irregular clusters of foliage, this little tree has been carefully hand-sawn from recycled sterling silver. The intricate cut-out design creates a striking silhouette within a softly rounded rectangular pendant.

I particularly love the character of old bonsai trees — their wonderfully gnarled shapes, their resilience and the sense that each one has a story to tell. There’s something rather lovely about capturing that feeling in a small piece of jewellery.

The pendant has been individually handcrafted in my Ballarat studio and finished with a soft satin surface. The subtle marks of the making process and gently irregular edges are deliberately retained, celebrating the beauty and individuality of something made entirely by hand.

Measurements:
Approximately 30mm high x 12mm wide, excluding the bail.

The reverse bears my maker’s mark and sterling silver hallmark.
