Ancient Hidden Grove Pendant

This one-of-a-kind pendant features a unique natural piece of Dendritic Agate, bezel set (wrapped in silver) and enclosed in a shadow-box style background. I have surrounded it with hand stamped silver balls in a slightly Art Deco/ Art Nouveau style to compliment this amazing naturally occurring landscape in the stone. This little one captures a still that could be seen as a tree on a ledge- as fungi when you look through it with light behind- or I think maybe an underwater scene capturing the textures and beauty of coral. These dendrites are warm and extremely detailed. 

These Shadow-box pieces are time consuming but incredibly enjoyable to create. Layering, Hand-stamping, texturing, soldering, and polishing are just some of the steps taken to bring these to life. Each process done with care and accuracy to create a piece that will last a lifetime. The backgrounds in the Shadow-boxes have been oxidised (blackened) which really highlights the colours and details in these incredible dendritic Agates.

Created entirely from recycled Sterling Silver, The Gauge (thickness) of the silver backing is 1mm making the piece strong and durable. The silver backing has a section cut out behind the dendrite gemstones to allow the light to shine through them. 

The word ‘dendrite’ comes from the Greek Word ‘dendron’ meaning ‘tree.’

Dendritic Agate or Quartz is created when the stone fractures and water and minerals seep into the rock and fossilise, the end result over hundreds of thousands of years is a beautiful section of quartz with a highly filigreed mineral dendritic landscape locked inside. Dendrites are fern-like inclusions of iron, manganese, or other metallic oxides that create bold patterns within the gem. The internal dendrites may appear black, dark grey, brown or green and, in rare instances, even red.
